Top tips for your Rosacea-prone skin this Summer!

Rosacea can be distinguished as a common skin condition that produces redness and visible blood vessels on your face. It can also appear as small spot like bumps on the skin and it is known that these symptoms can get worse when exposed to heat. This means more flare-ups during the summer months. According to a survey conducted by the National Rosacea Society, 80% of the 431 participants said they had experienced a flare-up of their symptoms due to sun exposure. Also, 54% said taking a hot bath or shower triggered a flare-up, and drinking a hot beverage is also a common trigger for rosacea.

Even though the exact cause of rosacea is still unknown, we do know exposure to heat including the sun may cause increased blood flow, sweating, and nerve responses for those with rosacea (National Rosacea Society). As a result of this, you can have a higher chance of experiencing a flare-up which can show as visible red flushing on your skin or visible blood vessels compared to someone who does not have rosacea.

Not sure how you can help your skin in the summer heat? We know summer is one of the hardest times for people suffering from rosacea as the best way to minimise a flare-up is to avoid the triggers that cause them. This includes spending time in the sun which is not always possible or desirable especially when we do experience beautiful sunny weather. With that being said, please find some of our top tips below to help during the warm summer months:

  • Always wear sunscreen/sun protection. Even if you do not suffer from rosacea this is a must when out in the sun. For people who do suffer from rosacea this is will help to reduce flare-ups and keep your skin protected. Make sure to make SPF a part of your daily routine especially in the summer months. If you are planning to be outside for a long period of time, make sure to re-apply your sunscreen at least every two hours.
  • Wear a hat/sunglasses to protect your face and keep out of direct sunlight.
  • Carry a water spray mist and use it to spray onto your face to keep cool.
  • Try to avoid peak hours that the sun is at its strongest, normally these hours are around 10am to 4pm.
  • Carry a soothing or cooling balm or Rosalique with you in case you do need something to help cool the skin.

There are many ways to beat rosacea, one of them being skincare. When suffering from rosacea it is essential you check your skincare products are compatible with your skin. A gentle skin-care routine can significantly help control rosacea.

Rosalique’s 3 in 1 Miracle Formula has become a staple for people suffering from rosacea, especially in the summer months. It is super easy to apply and will not only give you instant coverage, it will help treat the skin too and contains an SPF 50 (we recommend using it daily for up to 8 weeks to experience results). We recommend applying at the start of the day and if you are spending long periods of time outside, please reapply Rosalique throughout the day to keep your skin protected.

Enjoy (hopefully with all that is going on) a lovely summer!!
